KATE NELID

Katie Neild is a passionate photographer originally from a charming village near Ipswich, England. She recently moved to the vibrant city of Norwich to pursue a B.A. Honours degree in Photography at Norwich University of the Arts. Growing up, Katie was surrounded by a supportive network of family and friends who encouraged her artistic interests. Despite the challenges of dyslexia, her determination has only grown, pushing her to excel both academically and artistically. Katie's journey into photography began with a chance encounter capturing an osprey feeding on its catch, which sparked a deep fascination with seizing fleeting moments. This initial interest was nurtured by her high school photography tutor, whose support inspired her to pursue the art form seriously. She achieved Grade A in both GCSE and A-Level Photography and further honed her skills by taking a professional course at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, focusing on the beauty of the natural world. Her photography style is characterized by high levels of detail, contrast, and a thought-provoking approach. Katie enjoys exploring themes from nature, often challenging norms and perceptions through unique perspectives. Her work has evolved over time to embrace techniques that involve anticipating and adapting to her surroundings to capture the perfect shot. One of Katie's proudest achievements is winning the People's Choice Award in an online exhibition of Birds of Prey. She has also exhibited her work at university, where she projected wildlife images onto sculptures to create immersive experiences for viewers. Additionally, she participated in a three-day art exhibition run by Evolving Canvases at a gallery in Norwich, where she showcased a large self-portrait-based piece. Katie's goal is to continue evolving her work, making it more commercially oriented while maintaining the fluid and adaptive approach that defines her photographic journey. Through her art, Katie aims to inspire, evoke emotions, and offer new perspectives. She hopes to share her passion for photography with others, encouraging them to see the world through a different lens. Influenced by the incredible detail of Tim Flach's animal portraits and the wonder of Craig Burrows' fluorescent plant photography, Katie aspires to collaborate on projects involving light drawing. She looks forward to the endless possibilities that lie ahead in her artistic journey.
