JANET CHASE
Janet Chase has lived her whole adult life in Norfolk. Known for her multi-disciplinary approach and exploration of themes such as grief, identity and self-discovery. Janet is a self-taught artist but has embarked on a fine art degree to discover who she is, as a mature student. Her artistic process is deeply rooted in research and iterative experimentation with unconventional materials, allowing mistakes to guide her creative outcomes. Janet’s dedication to her craft has led to notable achievements, including her involvement with “Evolving Canvasses” art collective and exhibitions focusing on mental health issues. She also took part in a nine-day residency at The Cut and was selected to be part of the six-week exhibition, afterwards, that ran in celebration of this new initiative. Janet has recently completed a sensitive piece for a space used for counselling for a charity in Norwich, TimeNorfolk, which provides well-being support to those individuals who experience mental health challenges due to pregnancy loss. Janet’s aim is to create art that engages viewers and evokes empathy and engagement. Her influences include Aideen Barry, Robert Gober, Jasper Johns and Felix Gonzales- Torres, driving her to continually push the boundaries of conventional expression. Janet values the unique perspective that life experiences have brought to her art, by dealing with universal themes, that can affect anyone
