ELL PITCHER
Ell Pitcher is an Artist whose journey began in Essex, where she was born, but her formative years were spent on the East Coast. Influenced by her family, despite their lack of professional art backgrounds, Ell's interest in drawing and painting evolved into a passion for photography. At the age of seven, she discovered her love for capturing images with a small camera on an old flip phone, a passion that has only grown stronger over the years. Ell's artistic influences are diverse, extending beyond photography to include fashion, particularly the work of Vivienne Westwood. Westwood's ability to create clothing that communicates emotion, political messages, and beauty profoundly impacts Ell's approach to her own art. Her formal education in photography includes a GCSE, completed with top honours, and an A-Level, achieved with an A*. Currently, Ell is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Photography, further honing her skills and artistic vision. Ell's style is notably experimental, encompassing themes from horror and fiction to whimsical and editorial/fashion photography. While she has a strong preference for portrait and studio work, she has recently begun exploring documentary portraiture, focusing on social issues like mental illness. Her creative process begins with inspiration from various media, followed by thorough research into artists or art styles. After shooting her images and managing pre-production elements like makeup and set design, she dedicates significant time to post-production, meticulously refining her images with Adobe Photoshop. A significant milestone in Ell's career was being chosen by Jane Stockdale as one of the 15 winners of the #mythoughtsmyfeelings competition in 2022. This recognition led to her work being showcased on over 20 billboards across the country and an interview with artist Sarah Graham. Ell has also exhibited her photography in several galleries, including Beccles, Skippings Gallery, and the St Barnabas 50th Anniversary exhibition. Looking ahead, Ell aims to complete her degree and establish herself in the industry as a social activist photographer. She aspires to use her photography to advocate for important causes and travel the world. Ell hopes her work elicits deep emotional responses and thoughtful reflection, contributing positively to society and supporting charitable initiatives. Her dream collaboration would be with Annie Leibovitz, a legendary figure in the photography world.
