BEANS

Beans, a 26-year-old self-taught artist from Norwich. Having lived in Norwich her entire life, she draws inspiration from her collective life experiences, her hometown, and her loved ones. Nature holds a special place in her heart, often influencing her artwork. Beans comes from a lineage of artists, with both her mother and grandmother being talented creators. Raised in a creatively nurturing environment, she has always channelled her creative energy into her art. Despite the encouragement to pursue creativity, she faced significant challenges growing up. She became dependent on various substances at the age of 13, and her relationship with drugs and alcohol deteriorated over the years. Following a relapse and a failed suicide attempt last year, Amy has been working hard to rebuild her life. Art has been a constant presence throughout her struggles, fuelling her relentless desire to create. Her exploration of various mediums includes acrylic, oil, and water-based paints on unconventional canvases like street-found plywood, old coffee tables, and discarded art pieces. Her artistic interests also extend to calligraphy, still life drawings, film photography, graphic design, and digital art. Three years ago, she was introduced to the world of graffiti, which provided a healthier and more thrilling focus for her creative energies. Graffiti has since become a significant part of her artistic journey, leading her to paint across the UK and even in Athens. Within the graffiti and street art community, Beans is still discovering her style, experimenting with different lettering forms, calligraffiti, and realistic depictions of animals and nature. Her art, once an intensely personal endeavour, has now become a means to connect with others through her sobriety journey. She believes that artistic talent is a practice rather than an innate gift and emphasizes the significance of creating meaningful art. As a woman in a male-dominated scene, Beans has received positive encouragement and support from her peers, focusing on the constructive feedback and striving to inspire others to embrace their creativity. Her goal is to travel and share her art as widely as possible, spreading the graffiti bug and fostering a community of like-minded individuals. Art is a testament to her love for creativity, and she sees any financial reward as a bonus, prioritizing the significance and meaning of her work above all.
